A layer of dust on a heatsink or fan blade can raise temperatures noticeably within a few months, especially in dusty rooms. A can of compressed air every couple of months, used carefully with fans held still to avoid overspinning them, keeps thermals in check without any real cost.

  • Re-check thermal paste application if a CPU is running unusually hot despite clean components — it degrades over a few years.
